Overview

The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for overseeing the Bank’s Database Management System (DBMS), ensuring the integrity, availability, security, and performance of all associated databases. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining databases across development, testing, training, and production environments, with a strong focus on SQL Server configuration and optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the database architecture and capacity planning.
  • Enforcing security protocols and encryption in alignment with Bank policies.
  • Monitoring system health, performance, and availability, including clustering, mirroring, and failover strategies.
  • Troubleshooting and maintaining SQL servers and network-related database issues.
  • Supporting disaster recovery planning and backup strategies.
  • Documenting the database environment and enforcing data integrity constraints.
  • Collaborating with network support and business lines for application upgrades, user access, and impact analysis.
  • Evaluating SQL Server releases and recommending system improvements.
  • Performing duties of Application Administrator for critical systems and supporting audit and user access review processes.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field of study.
  2. Seven (7) years of experience in Financial Database Management.
  3. Experience in database administration, including installation, configuration, performance optimization, and troubleshooting.
  4. Experience with Microsoft Server Environment Administration, Office 365, Server hardware, Windows server 2019/2022/2025.
  5. Advanced knowledge of database structure and theory.
  6. Experience with MSSQL.

Combination of education and experience will be considered.

 

Skills and competencies

  1. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and assistance.
  2. Basic understanding of disaster recovery and database backup procedures.
  3. Familiarity with reporting tools.
  4. Must be highly analytical, able to perform problem resolution, monitoring and documenting of network components.
  5. Must have ability to meet deadlines and user demands.
  6. Must have strong technical leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to provide end-to-end support across infrastructure and user environments.
  7. Must possess good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

 

Preferences

  • Experience in Financial Industry.
  • Experience with Patch Management processes.
  • Experience with Powershell.
  • Prior Network or Help Desk experience.

 

Licenses/Certifications

  • Microsoft SQL Database Administration certification or related training preferred.
