Overview

The Asset-Based Field Examiner supports the Asset-Based Lending Department by conducting in-depth field examinations of both existing and prospective borrowers.  

Responsibilities

This includes evaluating financial records, collateral eligibility, and operational conditions to assess risk and ensure loan compliance.  Responsible for preparing work papers to support field exam conclusions and audit trail requirements, prioritize and summarize field examination findings in a detailed field examination report outlining the results, borrower risks, and recommendations for the Bank’s internal use.   The examiner formulates recommendations to help guide decision-making, protect collateral value, and align with Ocean Bank’s lending objectives and risk management strategies and is responsible for discussing audit findings with the manager, Relationship Manager, the Credit department, and other appropriate partners.  In addition, assists with month-end borrowing base analysis, including reviewing and reconciling borrowing base certificates (BBCs) submitted by borrowers & identifying discrepancies between field exam results and month-end reports to highlight collateral or reporting inconsistencies.  Provides support with processing loan fundings verifying the validity and sufficiency of collateral before fundings are approved.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Accounting or Finance and two (2) years of experience as an ABL Field Examiner at a lending institution or ABL firm or equivalent audit experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess good analytical, organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess the ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment.
  • Must be computer proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Asset Based Lending Field Training is required.
  • Must have reliable transportation for day-to-day travel to the client’s location to perform the fieldwork (domestic travel primarily).
